Coinbase to Launch Regulated US Perpetual-Style Futures for Nano BTC and ETH Contracts

Coinbase Derivatives has announced that it will launch US Perpetual-Style Futures on July 21, introducing a regulated domestic alternative to the perpetual futures products that dominate offshore crypto derivatives markets. The initial rollout includes nano Bitcoin Perpetual-Style Futures sized at 0.01 BTC and nano Ether Perpetual-Style Futures sized at 0.10 ETH. These contracts are designed to trade 24/7, carry five-year expirations, and use a funding-rate mechanism intended to keep futures prices closely aligned with spot prices. Funding accrues hourly and settles twice daily during designated cash adjustment periods. Coinbase says the new products are meant to address the regulatory, custody, and counterparty risks faced by many US traders who currently access perpetual contracts on offshore venues. The company also frames the launch as a milestone for market access, trading efficiency, and product innovation in the US. In parallel, Coinbase recently secured a MiCA license from Luxembourg’s financial regulator on June 20, allowing it to operate across all 27 European Union member states under a unified framework and serve about 450 million Europeans, replacing several country-level licenses previously held across major EU markets.
